2 Year Textile Art & Quilt Art Program

Cherilyn Martin joined us for our 3rd class in the 2-year Textile Arts program. It was a busy and successful day mark-making, embroidering by hand and machine and sharing all the creative and inspiring work from the month before. Lutrador les met Ineke Berlyn

Yesterday's class with Ineke Berlyn was jam packed full of new ideas and techniques using Lutrador. We painted, screen printed, fused fabric, and sewed beautiful art pieces. I can't believe people managed to finish an entire project in one day! Impressive! I'll be asking Ineke to come back again soon!

The contract is signed and moving to the new location is fast on the horizon...but until then, there are lots of chores to be done. Take a look at these two photos. This is the classroom waiting to be reconstructed and this is the bathroom, waiting for a toilet! It will look fabulous when it is all ready. I am more than excited to share this space with all of you! It will welcome you with warm arms and soft textiles. Keep your eyes peeled for the opening day! Ginni heeft me gevraagd dit filmpje over Lutradur te plaatsen. Veel plezier en inspiratie gewenst tijdens het kijken!

Hierboven een YouTube filmpje dat toont hoe Lutradur te gebruiken is, en wat veel mogelijkheden er zijn. Op 29 november is er een workshop van een volle dag met Ineke Berlyn over deze mogelijkheden, en je gaat er zelf mee aan de slag. Je maakt je eigen landschapje met Lutradur. Hier kun je de inhoud van de cursusdag bekijken en hier kun je je aanmelden.

We had a great a first day in the new Textile Art 2-year program. A group of 15 women joined together in Amsterdam and shared their talents, laughed a lot, and made plans for the coming months.

I will be attending a pre-conference activity - a tour of BOTH the Vlisco factory (African batik prints) and the Lace factory (kantfabriek). Two places I have been wanting to see and now I get a personal tour!

Handwerkfestijn voor het goede doel

The last two years that I went to this tweedehands beurs I found lots of great things for the school and for my own creativity! For anyone who would like to join me, I will be driving to De Kastanjeboom on Friday, 2 september in search of some goodies.

2 Year Textile Art & Quilt Art Program

I just put a new course up on the DIY website. It is a 2 year program in Textile Arts. I am really excited about it since there are so few programs on offer in this area. It will be absolutely fun to see this develop! I am in contact with teachers now and working out all the dates, so more information is still to come.

A number of years ago, I also was looking for a program just like this, a place to go as an older student, where I could learn about fiber arts. I wanted to learn about art and design theory, develop my skills in artistic design with textiles, and experiment, experiment, experiment. After taking a course here, a workshop there, a program here and lesson or two there...I decided it was high time to set up a school where one could really focus and develop their talents with excellent instructors, in a group with other like-minded people, with clear guidance throughout the creative process. With a Masters Degree in Creativity in Education and the teaching of many "bekende textielkunstenaars" in my repetoire, I am ready to offer you with the help of many of these same artists a top program! AMS-DIY Urban Arts Festival

Carola and I spent the day at the ABC Treehouse in their annual Urban Arts Festival. DIY had a table to let people know about all the creative skills one can learn at the Textile School. Carola and I were also privy to a few fun workshops - Penelope Craft's pin cushion workshop and Sara Naumann's collage workshop. Here is a photo of Carola having fun! I gave a workshop on creating your own Screen's for screen printing which you can learn more about on 6 August at my full day workshop! Click here for more info.

Last week Hieke and I went to a tweedehands fournituur winkel in Den Haag, Matroesjka. The little house (Crispijnstraat 74) had three floors filled with everything you could think of from lace to pins to wool to buttons of every color. It was all organized so perfectly that I had to take pictures for you. There was so much to see I only took pictures on the first floor, so don't forget there is more! All monies go to support a mother and child program, to help mothers who need extra support. Some of the moms work in the store organizing all the fabric (lots of it), jewelry, needles, and other sewing items. It is a great place for all those embellishments and cloth one needs for art quilting and mixed media projects! I would highly recommend a "look-see" for yourself but call ahead because they have limited hours!

Speaking of a DIY Textile BOOTH- I would love to share any of YOUR artwork as an example of what we do in our Mixed Media and Art Quilt courses! If you have something you think you could be without for a few days, please let me know. (Stella, your artbook would be great!).

If you can bring it to the club night, I would appreciate it, otherwise if I can, I'll come around and pick things up. It all depends on what I need and how much I can show. It is a small SPACE!

Sell your art

But, the ABC Treehouse is also providing us SPACE to show crafty artwork the whole month of July. If you have something you made and you might like to sell, under the DIY Textile School name (and yours of course), please let me know and/or bring that to club night as well!
